Startup Profile: EdGE Networks
With artificial intelligence (AI) starting to impact many aspects of our personal and working lives, it’s only natural that it should be used in one of the most challenging areas of corporate operations — human resources.
Indian startup EdGE Networks is hoping that its technology will help bring AI into the human resources sector. It has developed a system that uses AI and data science to help companies hire the best people and manage their workforce, talent acquisitions.
EdGE Networks has four products: HireAlchemy, for hiring (or ‘talent acquisition’); a ‘workforce optimizer’; a ‘talent analytics’ platform; and a ‘talent transformation’ tool. All four are web-based products and use data science to produce meaningful insights into each area.
HireAlchemy uses AI to find where there is a skills gap and then helps to identify the right kind of person to fill that gap, informing HR departments about the kind of candidate they should be seeking. It can also tap into a candidate’s data and produce a ‘skills-gap analysis’, and can also suggest relevant training courses for employees in order to ‘upskill’ them.
The workforce optimization product can help a HR department that is struggling with a slump in productivity to get an overview of everyone in the company in real-time, showing who should be placed where for optimal productivity. The talent analytics and transformation tools, meanwhile, can analyze an employee’s profile and recommend a career path or match the employee to a suitable internal vacancy. It can also determine any gap between a current and aspired job, and suggest appropriate courses or a learning path to help an employee achieve their goals.
Founder and CEO Arjun Pratap founded the company in 2012 after working as an account executive and sales VP in the 2000s. He realized that the perfect employee for a vacancy could lie in a pile of discarded resumés, and that a next-gen HR system, driven by artificial intelligence and data science, was needed in order to find the employees who could best fill open roles. The first version of EdGE Networks’ product was “like a fantastic hiring manager,” Arjun says, and it went from there to develop into the four EdGE Networks products.
Arjun and two angels put in the seed money to get the company started in 2012, and it has grown significantly since, culminating in a 228% growth in revenues during the past three years. It now boasts two of India’s top five IT firms, and one global top 10 IT firm, as customers. The company has recently expanded into the UK and North American markets, with sales representatives in both locations, fostering more potential growth as the company looks to expand outside of India.
International recognition came this year as the company participated in this year’s London Tech Week, having been selected as one of India’s Emerging Twenty by London & Partners.
In addition, Google chose EdGE Networks as one of the six Indian AI startups in the fourth edition of its Launchpad Accelerator. The leadership team recently returned from a two-week bootcamp in San Francisco as part of Google’s Launchpad Accelerator program, being mentored and advised by some of the top startup minds in Silicon Valley.
