Bengaluru-based startup EdGE Networks enables machines to do the hiring

EdGE Network’s clients include HCL and Wipro, among others. If ‘reading’ the resume is one way, ranking people based on coding merit is another.

This starts with scanning resumes. EdGE Networks, a Bengaluru-based startup, is using natural language processing, a method to enable machines to understand language inputs, to match the right candidate to a given job profile.

“First we analyse the job description. When we understand the function skills, abilities and traits required to perform the job, we then read the resumes, score and stack rank them for recruiters. It is easily done without human intervention and this allows us to continuously learn what is a fit and what is not,” said Arjun Pratap, CEO of EdGE Networks.

HackerRank does just that. With companies like Adobe, VMware, Facebook and Inmobi on its list, the startup is now planning to push the envelope further by trying to match the candidate to company culture.

“We are trying to figure out if the candidate is similar to people in your team or company,” said Harishankaran K, cofounder of HackerRank. “A simple matching system, where you feed in all the resumes, LinkedIn, Git-Hub profiles of your employees and whenever a new candidate comes in, we tend to match how much of this overlaps with the current employees as well. We are working on a beta prototype.”

Belong, a data-driven hiring solution, enables matches between companies and people based on social data and insights. “By indexing and analysing data from over 50 sources, including social and professional networks, online forums and communities and other sources, Belong brings the talent to hiring teams” said Vijay Sharma, CEO of Belong.
